The Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University will hold its annual Senior Showcase, a cabaret for graduating seniors, at 7:30 p.m. May 5 and 2 p.m. May 6 in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre at the River Campus. A reception will follow both performances in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center. The Senior Showcase assists in professionally promoting graduating seniors who have completed their Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts with a performance emphasis. The students will perform for invited agents, casting directors and professional actors from New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. Select seniors will be performing songs, monologues and dances they have perfected through on-campus workshops presented by invited professionals.  Those performing in the musical theatre/acting numbers are Maria Bartolotta of Fenton, Mo.; Gabrielle Brown of Fancy Farm, Ky.; Carly Earl of St. Charles, Mo.; Eileen Engel, Jake Ferree, Bradford Rolen and Stephanie Peterson, all of St. Louis; Lindsay Prawitz of St. Joseph, Mo.; Caleb Schaaf of Perryville, Mo.; Abby Vatterott of Manchester, Mo.; and Zach Wachter of Chaffee, Mo. "The showcase provides a performance outlet that will greatly enhance our current recruitment efforts of incoming high-quality students as well as assist graduating seniors with job placement in the areas of theatre and dance," said Dr. Kenn Stilson, interim chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “It is really an educational tool for the students to learn how to audition for professional companies. This takes us to the next level as a theatre and dance program.” Corporate sponsors for the Senior Showcase are Commerce Bank, Eustis Studios, Saxony Village, Southeast Health, Bold Marketing and Rhodes 101 Stops. Theatre and dance students, based on their performance throughout this academic year, have been selected to advance to New York City to perform before agents, casting directors, alumni and friends of the University, according to Stilson. The New York City Showcase is scheduled for May 15 at Penthouse Studio I in New York City. Those selected to perform in the New York City Showcase are Bartolotta, Brown, Earl, Engel, Feree, Peterson, Prawitz, Rolen, Schaaf, Vatterott and Wachter. Performing in New York City Dance Workshops will be Albertina, Beatty, Holtgrave and Schloss. The Cape Girardeau Senior Showcase allows friends and family members of the participants and other interested community members who are not able to travel to New York City to attend the show locally, Stilson said. The Cape Girardeau Senior Showcase is open to the public and serves as a fund raiser for future Senior Showcase activities. The department is requesting a $10 donation from the public and a $5 donation from students. Seats will be available at the door. This production may contain adult language and content.
