National History Day District Contest Hosted by Southeast

The National History Day in Missouri district contest will once again be hosted by Southeast Missouri State University March 9 in the University Center.  About 500 junior high and high school students from Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Stoddard, Washington, and Wayne counties will be competing for the chance to advance to the state National History Day competition at the University of Missouri April 21.  The theme for History Day 2012 is “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History,” and students will compete in one of five categories: exhibit, documentary, performance, historical paper or website.  Project judging will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the University Center.  An awards ceremony will be held in Rose Theatre in the Grauel Language Arts Building at 2 p.m.  For information, contact the District 9 coordinator Laurie Hamblin, Department of History, Southeast Missouri State University, phone (573) 651-2717, or e-mail lhamblin@semo.edu.
