WORDSFAIR
(Academic)
WORDSFAIR, a biannual celebration of creative writing, music and art hosted by Journey Student Literary Magazine, will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, from noon to 5 p.m., in the University Center Ballroom A at Southeast Missouri State University.
An “Open House” event is free and open to the public, who may come and go at their convenience. WORDSFAIR features a special performance by a visiting author, readings by creative-writing students, musical performances and displays of artwork. Door prizes from local businesses will be awarded at three different times during the afternoon. Headlining the event is a reading between 1 and 2 p.m. by Dr. Kevin Stein, Poet Laureate of Illinois and director of the Creative Writing Program at Bradley University. Stein’s poems and essays have appeared widely in journals such as American Poetry Review, Boulevard, The Colorado Review, The Gettysburg Review, The Southern Review, and TriQuarterly. He has received numerous awards, including the Vernon Louis Parrington Medal for Distinguished Writing, Poetry’s Frederick Bock Prize, the Indiana Review Poetry Prize, the Stanley Hanks Award and four Illinois Arts Council Literary Awards for his poetry. In addition, he has been the recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship and three such fellowships awarded by the Illinois Arts Council. He was named Bradley University’s Professor of the Year for excellence in teaching.
