Renowned Author to Visit Classes, Deliver Presentation
(Lecture Series)


Kevin Brockmeier, author of seven acclaimed books of contemporary fiction, will be at Southeast on Tuesday, Sept. 27, to visit creative writing classes and to deliver a presentation on his work at 7 p.m. in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium.

Brockmeier,  listed by Granta magazine as one of the best young American novelists, has written three novels: "The Illumination,"  "The Brief History of the Dead" and "The Truth About Celia;" two short-story collections: "The View from the Seventh Layer" and "Things That Fall From the Sky;" and two children's novels.

His stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Tin House, McSweeney's, The Oxford American, The Best American Short Stories and the O. Henry Prize Stories, among other publications.  He has taught at the Iowa Writer's W orkshop, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts, and he has been the recipient of numerous literary awards, including a National Endowment of the Arts fellowship, an O. Henry Award, the Italo Calvino Short Fiction Award, the Nelson Algren Award and a James Michener Fellowship.

A book signing will follow the presentation; books will be available at the reading. The event is sponsored by the University Press, Journey student literary journal, and the College of Liberal Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
