KRCU Spring Membership Drive Breakfast with Keynote Speaker Scott Horsley
(Entertainment)

KRCU Public Radio will officially kick off its Spring Membership Drive on Thursday, March 31, with a membership breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Barbara Hope Kem Statuary Hall at the Wehking Alumni Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

The highlight of the breakfast will be keynote speaker Scott Horsley who is a White House correspondent for NPR News.

Dan Woods, KRCU general manager says, “We are so excited to welcome Scott Horsley to Southeast Missouri State University and to Cape Girardeau. To have a world-class journalist here to kick off our spring membership drive is definitely a great way to start off membership month.”

Horsley was a fixture on the campaign trail throughout 2008, traveling extensively with Sen. John McCain to cover the Arizona senator's bid for the presidency. He comes to the White House beat from the west coast, where he covered the economy and energy as NPR's San Diego-based business correspondent. He also helped cover the 2004 presidential campaign and reported from the Pentagon during the early phases of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

KRCU has invited all of its listeners to attend and enjoy a complimentary breakfast, hear from Scott and make their spring membership gift.

Amanda Lincoln, KRCU development director says, “Our membership breakfast is becoming a new spring tradition at the station, and we hope many of our listeners will join us and step up to support KRCU. Individual contributions are vital to the success of the station.”

Lincoln also noted that KRCU will only be “pitching” or asking for donations on-air for four days throughout the spring campaign. Listeners will have opportunities to call in and pledge with days focused on specific programming. This spring, the station is offering every supporter a thank you tote bag.

KRCU relies on listener financial support to help cover the cost of programming. Member support and underwriting make up over 30 percent of the budget. Southeast Missouri State University and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting are the other two largest supporters of the station.

During the drive, listeners may make pledges by calling (573) 651-5070 in the Cape Girardeau area or toll-free at (888) 651-5070 or by giving online at www.krcu.org.
