ART SLAM! Focusing on 'Art of the Brick' Exhibit

The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus will present ART SLAM! on the exhibition by Nathan Sawaya “Art of the Brick” Feb. 1. The museum will host the Art Slam! at 6 p.m. featuring Benjie Heu, associate professor of art; Stephanie Lynch, public relations manager for Hoffman|Lewis of  St. Louis; and Dr. Melissa Odegard, assistant professor of educational leadership and counseling. The first ever three-person debate/performance will be centered on this exhibition, and audience members are encouraged to participate. Sawaya, a New York-based artist, has created several new works specifically for the Southeast exhibit. “The Art of Brick” features more than 30 awe-inspiring works, created over a five-year period, using close to one million colorful standard Lego pieces. The exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 20 The museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at the River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain Street in Cape Girardeau. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends. For more information contact the museum at or (573) 651-2260.
