Extravaganza Benefiting Department of Theatre and Dance Students
(Fine Arts)
Participants will have the opportunity to help send Southeast Missouri State University senior performing arts students to Broadway at the Department of Theatre and Dance’s exclusive evening Extravaganza Jan. 28 in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Mary-Ann Maloney of KFVS12 will serve as the mistress of ceremonies at the event beginning with a 5 p.m. social, followed by 6 p.m. musical performances at Celebrations Downtown & The Crowe Gallery, 19 Spanish Street.
For one night only, those who attend will have a chance to mingle with the cast of “Anything Goes.” The evening also will include a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
The silent auction will benefit the Senior Showcase, a cabaret for graduating seniors. The Senior Showcase, to be held in the spring, assists in professionally promoting seniors who have completed a degree in performing arts. Students will perform for invited agents, casting directors and professional actors from major metropolitan markets, who will ultimately select students to perform in New York City before agents, casting directors, alumni and friends of the University.
“The Senior Showcase provides a performance outlet to assist graduating seniors with job placement in the areas of theatre and dance,” said Rhonda Weller-Stilson, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “We expect the Extravaganza to be a delightful evening and hope it goes a long way toward paving the future success of our students.”
Sponsors of the Extravaganza are Southeast Health, Saxony Village Retirement Community, Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores, Commerce Bank and Print & Pixel. Tickets are $50 per person. Seating is limited. Those attending are asked to RSVP by Jan. 21.
