Dept. of Agriculture, Dept. of Industrial & Engineering Technology Hosting Open House Nov. 10
(Academic)

The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology at Southeast Missouri State University will host an open house from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Otto and Della Seabaugh Polytechnic Building on the Southeast campus.

The event follows Show Me Day at Southeast, a showcase of the entire University for prospective students. At the open house, prospective students are invited to meet current faculty and staff in both the Department of Agriculture and Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology to learn about the programs available.

Faculty and staff will be giving tours to students interested in these fields. Students with an interest in industrial and engineering technology will have the opportunity to view the computer graphics labs, manufacturing lab, robotics lab, computer networking and cybersecurity labs, material testing lab and much more.

Those students interested in agriculture will be able to visit the Charles L. Hutson Horticulture Greenhouse, located at the corner of Old Sprigg and Bertling streets, and learn about the University's Rice Research Station and Southeast's 252-acre David M. Barton Agriculture Research Center.

The open house will offer prospective students interested in a high-tech education in either agriculture or industrial and engineering technology the opportunity to learn about the department's outstanding programs focused on applied sciences/plant and animal sciences, applied engineering and technical management. Participants also will learn about quality careers and excellent starting salaries for graduates in these fields; state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for students to gain hands-on experience; internship and experiential learning programs established for students with business and industries; and the College of Science, Technology and Agriculture’s nationally accredited programs.

“The open house gives students a first-hand look at what both the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology have to offer,” said Amanda Eller, coordinator of special programs and services in the College of Science, Technology and Agriculture. “We hope that those who are interested in the program will come away from the open house with a better understanding of the field they are entering.”

Southeast’s Department of Agriculture offers a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, with options in agriculture industry, animal science, horticulture, plant and soil science, a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in agriculture education; and a pre-professional degree in pre-veterinary medicine.

The Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology offers ABET and ATMAE-accredited bachelor of science degrees in commercial photography, cybersecurity, engineering technology, technology management and industrial education, with several options from which to choose in each discipline. An Associate of Applied Science for A+ Scholarship eligible students is also offered in computer technology with several options from which to choose. A pre-professional degree in pre-architecture is available as well.
