The Civil War in the American Heartland"
This collaborative effort between Kent Library’s Special Collections, the Special Collections Research Center at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, the Center for Regional History and the Department of History at Southeast Missouri State University is being funded by a digital imaging grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The purpose of the project is to digitize documents, photographs, and other records related to the Civil War in 23 counties in Southeast Missouri, and five counties in Southern Illinois. The materials will be used to illustrate the significance and impact the Civil War had on this region.
Digital Project Manager, Ellen M. Ryan will talk about Confluence and Crossroads and its process, highlighting some of the items that have been identified, and why and when historical documents are digitized as a tool for preservation and access to information.
