Dental Dash 5K Run/Walk Nov. 3 in Cape Girardeau

A Dental Dash 5K Run/Walk is planned for Nov. 3 in Cape Girardeau to help raise awareness about the Missouri Dental Association’s Mission of Mercy here next spring.
The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 at the 4-H Building in Arena Park. Early registration fee is $25, and those who register by Oct. 8 will receive a T-shirt. Registration fee the day of the event is $30. Lunch will be provided after the run/walk.
The public is invited to participate. In addition, dental offices in the area have been asked to send teams to join in the race. Games and activities will be available as well as a shorter one-mile loop for those who want to participate but do not want to do the full 5K.
The Dental Dash 5K Run/Walk is being held exactly six months before the actual Mission of Mercy next spring. The Missouri Dental Association Foundation and Southeast Missouri State University are sponsoring the Missouri Mission of Mercy May 3-4 at the Show Me Center. This will be a free, charitable dental clinic in which dental care will be provided to the less fortunate. During the clinic, about 2,400 patients from Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas are expected to be treated. Services will be provided by 200 dentists, 100 hygienists and 100 assistants.
This is the first time for Cape Girardeau to hold a Missouri Mission of Mercy. The inaugural Missouri Mission of Mercy was held last year in Springfield, Mo. Missions of Mercy previously have been held in Kansas, Illinois and Arkansas as well.
Dr. Janet Ruopp is coordinating the local initiative in Cape Girardeau.
