Byron McCauley Presenting Annual Michael Davis Lecture
(Lecture Series)

Byron McCauley, director of public relations at KnowledgeWorks in Cincinnati, Ohio, will present the Department of Mass Media’s Michael Davis Lecture Feb. 29 at Southeast Missouri State University.

The lecture is scheduled for noon Feb. 29 in Rose Theatre in the Grauel Building. The event is free and open to the public and is part of the University’s Black History Month activities.

The Michael Davis Lecture recognizes the contributions of African-Americans in the media. The event also honors the late Michael Davis, a mass communications student at Southeast who died as a result of a hazing incident. He was a journalism student in then Department of Mass Communication at Southeast Missouri State University at the time of his tragic death. In 1997, the department held the first Michael Davis Lecture to honor his memory as part of the University's Black History Month activities. The Michael Davis Lecture continues each year, with a special invited guest from the mass media.

This year’s lecturer, McCauley, was an award-winning journalist during a 20-year newspaper career, including a tenure as associate editorial page editor at the Cincinnati Enquirer. He also served as executive speechwriter at Cintas Corp., and as an adjunct assistant professor of journalism at the University of Cincinnati. He has been deeply involved as a youth mentor and has been active with Boys and Girls Clubs of America. McCauley earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Louisiana Tech University and a master’s degree in public relations from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also trained at Harvard Business School’s Executive Education program in strategic marketing management. He and his wife, Jill, have three daughters.

KnowledgeWorks is a social enterprise that incubates and scales up innovative schools and education initiatives throughout the United States.
