Museum to Host 'Civil War: Heroes and Horror' Feb. 18

"Civil War: Heroes and Horror" is being hosted by the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 on the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus. This special program is designed to show the more personal side of the Civil War. Character performances will emphasize the repercussions of battle at a field hospital, and visitors will witness the agonies experienced by the troops when not in battle. “Civil War Heroes and Horrors” will feature demonstrations, historical performances, a period clothing fashion show, a military and camp display, and food tasting. Special guests at the event will include the 6th Missouri Company D Reenactors and the Ride Into History Performance Troupe. Dr. Joyce Thierer will perform “Fighting Beside My Brother” at 2 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to stop in anytime throughout the afternoon to participate in activities. The event is free and open to the public. In connection with this Family Day activity, the Crisp Museum is offering a “Preserving our Past through Performance” workshop from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 18 and 19. Participants will learn the process of creating an accurate first person narrative. Enrollment is required. Seating is limited. Lunch will be provided.
