Crisp Museum Offers Historical Performance
(Fine Arts)

The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus is offering a historical performance workshop for adults, given by Ride into History, the historical performance touring troupe, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 18-19 in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center.

Participants will enjoy the process of creating first-person narratives, developing interesting characters and becoming confident performers telling local history. Lunch will be provided.

Ride into History has been taking their performances on the road for more than 20 years. Workshop participants learn from Dr. Ann Birney and Dr. Joyce Thierer that historical performers have two responsibilities, to be accurate and to entertain.

Their goal has been to increase the quality of historical performance nationwide. To that end, Thierer wrote “Telling History: A Manual for Performers and Presenters of First-Person Narratives,” which was recently published by AltaMira Press.

Ride into History has performed in 25 states and the Northern Mariana Islands. Their work has been praised by people of all ages.

Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required. To register, call (573) 651-2301.
