Kingsbury Ensemble to Present Free Concert at River Campus
(Fine Arts)

The Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University will present a performance of Baroque music to be performed by the notable period music ensemble, the Kingsbury Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the glorious acoustics of the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall on the River Campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Composers to be featured on this concert include Jean Marie Le Clair, Georg Phillip Telemann, Jean-Philippe Rameau, and Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, all composers from the high Baroque era in music. A particular feature of this concert is that it will focus on chamber ensemble music for two Baroque flutes with continuo accompaniment of harpsichord and Baroque cello.

Founded in 1999 and based in St. Louis, The Kingsbury Ensemble is one of the Midwest's premiere early music ensembles. Its mission is to stage authentic performances of music from the renaissance to the early romantic period so that listeners may experience this timeless music as its original audiences did. Members of the ensemble are amongst the most active and sought after performers of early music in the Midwest. Performing with the Kingsbury Ensemble for this evening’s concert will be Ensemble Director and harpsichordist Maryse Carlin; Baroque flutists Douglas Worthen (professor of Flute, SIU-Carbondale) and Paul Thompson (Southeast Missouri State University); and Eric Lenz, Baroque cello (SIU-Carbondale).

Anyone wishing to enjoy the beautiful sounds of the high Baroque, performed on original instruments in the splendid setting of the Shuck Recital Hall, is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact the Department of Music at (573) 651-2141.
