Art Academy Summer Workshop for ages 15-18
(Fine Arts)

This art workshop is designed for the high school student artist interested in broadening and enriching their art experiences. This weeklong workshop features experiences in ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking. Class size is limited to 15 students. Bring a brown bag lunch and dress for a mess! Fee: $200 (all supplies included) The class schedule for this week is as follows:

· Raku Ceramics - June 6, from  9 a.m. - noon and June 10, from  9 a.m. - noon in Memorial Hall, Room 028. Students will create Raku friendly forms on the pottery wheel and hand build with clay. You will get dirty! 

· Sculpture - June 6, from 1-4 p.m. and June 10, from 1-4 p.m. in the Serena Building, Room 104. Students will develop an understanding of high relief, low relief, and sculpture in the round through the application of different art media and various art techniques

· Drawing - June 7, from 9 a.m. - noon and June 8, from 1 -4:00 p.m. at River Campus, Room 42. Basic drawing skills will be covered such as: gesture drawing, positive/negative shape and space, composition, value tones, line sensitivity and perceptual accuracy 

· Printmaking - June 8, from 9:00 a.m. – noon and June 9, from 9 a.m. – noon at the River Campus, Room 41.   Students will use a variety of techniques to produce  wood cut prints.  

· Painting - June 7, from  1-4 p.m. and June 9, from 1-4 p.m. at River Campus, Room 47. Student artists will create a portable painting, examine the question, “What is art?,” challenge previous notions of beauty and investigate the way public creative expressions effect our daily lives.

All full day workshops will be held in the Southeast art studio under the guidance of the University’s Department of Art faculty: Benjie Heu, ceramics; Chris Wubbena, sculpture; Kristin Nowlin, printmaking; Emily Booth, painting; Kathy Smith, drawing.Student work will be on exhibit at the Art Council of Southeast Missouri through the month of August. Opening Reception will be held August 5th, 2011 from 5-8 p.m.
